The Mississippi Delta
Ready for a little lesson in geography? OK, here we go.
The Delta is located in the Northwest portion of Mississippi
and runs
from Memphis, TN to Vicksburg, MS.
The land is flat and fertile from repeated flooding of
the Mississippi River over thousands of years.
The Delta was mostly un-populated until around the mid 1800's.
Many years were spent clearing ancient forests and draining lowlands
before any farming could be done.
Today, the Delta is one of the world's leading agricultural
producers.
Cotton, soybeans, corn, sorgum, and catfish are the main crops
being farmed here now.
